The Proteas represent South Africa as a proud full member of the ICC, earning their nickname from the national flower, the King Protea. With a storied legacy dating back to their first Test in 1889, they were reinstated post-apartheid in 1991 and quickly re-emerged as a global force across formats. Today, they stand as the current ICC World Test Champions (2023–2025), and consistently rank in the top tier: 2nd in Tests, 5th in ODIs, and 5th in T20Is as of July 2025.

Though a major ICC limited-overs title has eluded them, The Proteas reached the T20 World Cup final in 2024 and famously clinched the ICC Champions Trophy in 1998. Known for their dynamic mix of powerful batting, precise seam bowling, and artistic spin, they remain a Rhodes festival of cricketing excellence.
