From grassroots cricket to national youth weeks, this is where South Africa’s brightest young players take their first steps.
South Africa’s Under-19 team is the heartbeat of our cricket pipeline, developing future Proteas and giving young players international exposure. Stars such as Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram, Reeza Hendricks and Andile Phehlukwayo all came through this setup before making their mark at senior level.
The Junior Proteas have a proud record at the ICC Under-19 World Cup, consistently reaching the knockout stages and standing tall against the best in the world. Their crowning moment came in 2014, when South Africa lifted the trophy under the leadership of Aiden Markram. More recently, the team delivered promising performances at the 2024 edition, where Lhuan-dre Pretorius emerged as South Africa’s leading run-scorer and showcased the depth of talent in the squad.
Teams will be playing 5 x 50 over games. Teams will be divided into two groups of 8 teams based on their performances at the week in 2024. Teams will play within their pools based on the snake system on the first three days and playoff games on day four and five.
On Day 5, the FINALS as well as PROMOTION / RELEGATION matches will also take place.
16 Teams will be divided into Platinum and Gold sections, separated based on their position they ended in 2023.
Both Platinum and sections will be divided into two groups of equal strength, based on the snake method.
The first three days each team will play the other three teams in their group (50 overs).
On day 4, two T20 matches will be played.
The first one will be the semi-finals and the second T20 will be the finals.
On day 5 the SA Schools team will play against the Fillies.
There will be promotion / relegation between the Platinum and Gold sections.

This tournament provide opportunity for all the players in the rural areas, this serves as an ideal platform for the talented players to get provincial colours, some of the players have gone on to play professional cricket.
USSA’s core business is to maximize student participation and encourage sporting practice in harmony with and complementary to the academic character and values of tertiary education institutions.
USSA’s programmes are structured in such a way to facilitate and improve opportunities for all students to acquire the necessary sporting skills to compete at all levels.
USSA’s membership is open to all SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) accredited institutions of higher education (universities and colleges)
The primary goal of the Switch Schools SA20 Schools is to provide cricket playing schools in the country with an opportunity to partake in a national competition that aims to unearth the next best talent in the pathway.
Cricket South Africa, in partnership with SA20, will launch the second edition of the Schools SA20 Knockout competition, which began in September 2025 and runs through March 2026. Below is an outline of the three phases of the tournament:
Knock-out stages:
Phase 1: District and Regional knock-out competition – September – November 2025.
Focus Schools knock-out competition – 28 – 30 November 2025.
Phase 2: Member Knock-Out competition – 11 – 18 January 2026.
Phase 3: 14 Member winners to partake in Schools SA20 National finals – 03 – 07 March 2026.
The CSA Cubs Week gathers the country’s top U19 players, mixed into balanced teams, to compete at an elite level. It simulates professional cricket environments and gives players valuable exposure to selectors. Many future Proteas have used this platform as a springboard into higher honours, making it one of the most important youth tournaments.
The CSA U/13 Cricket Week introduces young players to structured national competition. This platform focuses on basic skills, teamwork, and the thrill of representing their province. For many, it is the first taste of cricket beyond school level and lays the foundation for their journey in the sport. Performances here often mark the beginning of a promising cricketing career.
