North West Continue Their Dominance At Division 2 Women’s Week

BLOEMFONTEIN: Having won their opening two matches of the CSA Division 2 Women’s National Week, Glencore North West Dragons made it three from three with a dominant 123 run win over Eastern Province further, solidifying their bid for promotion to the Hollywoodbets Pro Series. The team from Potchefstroom has been the stand-out side with three wins so far, however Mpumalanga, who have played a game less, have won both of their matches so far. The Dragons batted first against EP and compiled a formidable 218 for seven in their 50 overs with half centuries from Rode Denysschen (60), Deidrè van Rensberg (54) and Lizri de Villiers (51) getting them to that mark. The wickets were shared amongst the EP bowlers with Chene Arnolds (2/31), Mariana Breedt (2/43) and Imam Bonnasse (2/48) all bagging two wickets. In reply, the EP batters couldn’t get going and they were eventually bowled out for 95. Tarran January’s 36 off 71 balls was the only significant contribution as the Dragons bowlers dominated with Lerato Kotokoane taking the best figures of the week so far picking up 5 for six in four overs. Mpumalanga continued their good form with another strong win beating Kei by a mammoth 198 runs on Monday. The Rhinos amassed 274 all out in 48 overs. Half centuries from Ashley Barnard (71) and Chris-Mari Bezuidenhout (61) helped them to that formidable total. Lilitha Bakubaku took 4 for 56 for Kei and was the pick of their bowlers. Kei were bundled out for just 76 with Yamkela Zanqa’s 39 the only telling contribution with the bat for the Kei team. Ashely Barnard took 4 for 23 with the ball while there were two wickets apiece for Grace Ndlovu and Hope Mpashi. Boland registered their first win of the week when they beat KZN Inland 114 runs. The Boland ladies racked up the highest total of the week making 278 for six in their 50 overs. Delmari Hoffmann continued her good form with the bat making 71 off 48 balls while Christine Tomlinson’s unbeaten 58 off 79 balls also catapulted them to that score. Nontobeko Yaka was the best Inland bowler with figures of 3 for 38. The Inland reply was ended in the 41st over when they were bowled out for 164. Nonjabula Shoba made 39 and Jessica Candler added 37, however 5 for 45 from Danell Boschoff and 4 for 22 from Melissa van der Merwe got the Cape-based team back on track. The Eastern’s Ladies then beat Eastern Cape Iinyathi by four wickets. Iinyathi batted first and made a competitive 158 all out with Siyamanga Mhletywa making 57 off 75 balls. There was another five wicket haul as Mieke van Voorst bagged 5 for 32 in just over six overs. The response from the Easterns batters was fairly clinical as they knocked off the runs required with four wickets in hand. Robyn Dormehl carried on her fine form with another half century when she top scored with 66 off 68 balls. Tamzyn Hartman made 42 as Easterns went to the required score with over 16 overs to spare. The Limpopo Lillies also continued their good form with another win, this time a 16 run win over Northern Cape. The Lillies made 114 all out with an unbeaten 21 from Koketso Manyaga the top score. Rethabile Koekoe took 4 for 10 for Northern Cape as they would have fancied their chances to chase down 115. In response the Northern Cape batters were pinned back by the Lillies bowlers who bowled them out for 98 in defence of that low total. Shakiri Malatji’s 3 for 24 and the two wickets apiece for Anele Dilikane and Khanyisile Skhosana helped the Lillies to a second win of the week. Tuesday’s action with see Mpumalanga take on Northern Cape. North West will be out to continue their unbeaten record against Kei while the Limpopo Lillies face off against Boland, KZN Inland are up against Eastern Cape Iinyathi and Easterns tackle Eastern Province.
