Western Province To Host Dragons In CSA 1 Day Cup Final

GQEBERHA: Western Province will host NWU Dragons in final showdown of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) 1 Day Cup final on Saturday.

On Sunday, Western Province maintained their unbeaten streak in the 2023/24 CSA 1Day Cup when David Bedingham smashed 108 off 80 to help the hosts to a successful run-chase against the Gbets Rocks in Newlands.

Rocks had finished their innings on 255 all out in the allotted 50 overs, thanks a huge part to Keegan Petersen’s half century (94 off 112), Pieter Malan (43) and Shaun von Berg’s 29 runs.

The hosts reached the target in just under 33 overs with additional runs from Kyle Verreynne (36) and Jonathan Bird (31).

WP’s Abdullah Bayoumy returned 4/54, with two scalps from Dane Paterson and everyone chipped in to help restrict the hosts.

Hardus Viljoen and Siyabonga Mahima also registered two scalps each for the visitors, which proved not enough as the hosts secured a comfortable five-wicket win.

In Gqeberha, Dragons secured a final spot after thumping Dafabet Warriors with a massive eight-wicket win to finish second by virtue of having more wins than their hosts, who finished third on the same number of points.

Warriors were bundled out for 94 runs, with Patrick Kruger as the only notable contributor in his 44 off 76. The lineup around him could only combine for 50 runs as Ruan de Swardt’s destruction saw him claim the most economic four-wicket haul, returning 4/17 in 10 overs.

Dragons made an easy chase at the loss of only three wickets, with Lesego Senokwane (37) and Raynard van Tonder (23) as lead contributors.

In Johannesburg, DP World Lions secured another huge win in the Jukskei derby, bundling out Momentum Multiply Titans with just 78 runs.

Titans suffered three run-outs in their top order before Tshepo Moreki (3/23) and Evan Jones (2/21) spearheaded the bowling attack that saw the visitors unable to get to a hundred at the Wanderers.

This provided a comfortable chase for the Lions, as an unbeaten Ryan Rickelton 41* guided the hosts to victory, losing only two wickets.

The encounter between AET Tuskers and Hollywoodbets Dolphis was abandoned due to implement weather without a ball bowled in Pietermaritzburg.

The CSA 1 Day Cup final will take place at Newlands Cricket Ground on Saturday, 28 October 2023 at 10h00.
