Proteas Team Doctor Mohammed Moosajee says he expects Kagiso Rabada to fully fit for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, which begins later this month.
The fast bowler raised the alarms of South African supporters when he withdrew early from the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a back injury.
However, Moosajee has eased any fears that ‘KG’ - one of the Proteas’ key bowlers - will be absent for the CWC.
“With KG‚ we are extra cautious because of two reasons,” said the Team Doctor. “He had a back issue that kept him out of the game for a protracted amount of time.
“Secondly‚ there’s his importance in the squad‚ so we’re managing his rehab and his return to play very carefully.
“The anticipated recovery period for KG’s injury is two to three weeks and we are hopeful he’ll make a full recovery to be part of the World Cup squad.”
Moosajee added, “The selectors have ensured they have enough options on the table but there are some players that have been earmarked as standby players.”
The Proteas also have worries over Rabada’s fellow fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi, though both are on course to make the trip to England and Wales.
