Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has reassured South African fans that his back injury will not prevent him playing at the upcoming 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Rabada gave supporters a major scare with the news that he was leaving the 2019 Indian Premier League season due to a back injury.
With Dale Steyn already a doubt due to a flare up of the shoulder injury which has curtailed his career in recent years, as well other concerns over the likes of Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi, Rabada’s withdrawal from the IPL raised a red flag.
Yet the 23-year-old took to Instagram over the weekend to declare that his departure from the Delhi Capitals was merely “precautionary”.
“[The] IPL was really fun!” Rabada wrote. “Extremely glad for the opportunity! Sad to leave but good to be home! Bittersweet.”
He added, “Regarding my back, I’m good - precautionary is all. Will be supporting the boys all the way!”
Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee is expected to give an injury update in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
