WARRIORS TAKE DOWN THE TITANS ON FINAL DAY OF FOUR-DAY SERIES OPENING ROUND

JOHANNESBURG: The Gbets Warriors clinched an exciting one-wicket victory over the Momentum Multiply Titans on the fourth of the 2021/22 CSA Four-Day Domestic Series Division One opening round at SuperSport Park, Centurion on Monday.

The team based in Gqeberha entered the final day’s play faced with a straightforward task of requiring 54 runs to win with three wickets in hand after all-rounder Marco Jansen (55 off 59 balls) and Lesiba Ngoepe’s knocks had taken them close to the target of 235 for victory on day three.

The visitors added 15 quick runs in the first few overs of the day, with Ngoepe going onto bring up his 25th First-Class half-century, with new man at the crease Tiaan van Vuuren the aggressor, as he scored a quickfire 32* off 34 balls despite finally losing Ngoepe and then Glenton Stuurman (6).

The former SA under-19 youngster then combined well with last man in, Mthiwekhaya Nabe (10* to take the Warriors over the line and seal a statement victory away from home as they joined the Imperial Lions as the only Division One side with a first round win following their innings and 72-run defeat of the North West Dragons.

In Bloemfontein, the GbetsRocks batters stole the show on the final day with Janneman Malan (200* off 319 balls) recording an incredible double hundred, the tournament’s second this season, while his partner, Ferisco Adams (127 off 238) raised his bat for a sixth-career century to take the Rocks to a first innings score of 520/9 before declaring.

After the entire first day of the game was rained out, the ITEC Knights went into their second innings trailing by 200 runs but with less than a day’s play remaining. The home side managed 143/2, with Jacques Snyman (49) falling one runs short of his fifty before both captains shook hands for a draw.

Meanwhile at the Six Gun Grill Newlands Stadium, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the home side, Six Gun Grill Western Province had to share the points after their final day was curtailed by rain with WP stranded on 190/7 and 30 runs behind in their second innings after being made to follow-on.

Round two of the CSA Four-Day Domestic Series Division One gets underway this Friday, 05 November with all matches streamed live on SuperSport’s YouTube Channel.
