POTCHEFSTROOM: The Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 Challenge returned more thrilling action as the competition’s double-headers continue in Potchefstroom.
The ITEC Knights secured an empathetic nine-wicket win over the Six Gun Grill Western Province Blitz on Thursday afternoon.
Knights lost the toss and were asked to take the ball first. Gerald Coetzee (4/22), Aubrey Swanepoel (3/24), and Jacques Snyman (2/13) tore through the Blitz line-up to bowl out their opponents in 18.5 overs with just 116 runs.
This proved an easy task for the Knights who powered to the target in less than 14 overs. Player of the match, Gihahn Cloete came through with an unbeaten 68* off 42. He had the support of Rynard van Tonder (33* off 28) and their unbeaten 84-run partnership ensured a bonus point victory for the Bloemfontein-based side.
Dafabet Warriors were put to the bat first by the Gbets Rocks in the second match of the day.
The early wickets of Wihan Lubbe, Lesiba Ngoepe, Rudi Second, had the Warriors in a panic.
But Matthew Breetzke (61*) and Jordan Hermann (52) combined for an 89-run partnership to stabilize the innings. Hermann was caught by Hardus Viljoen off Bamanye Xenxe and Breetzke partnered up with Beyers Swanepoel (22*) for 43 – runs and Warriors were 165/4 at the end of the innings.
Beyers Swanepoel held his nerve to defend nine runs in the final over to take Warriors home, winning the game by three runs.
