02 Apr VALLIE CENTURY STEERS WESTERN PROVINCE TO VICTORY
JOHANNESBURG: The CSA One-Day Cup will see the last round of pool games this Sunday, as teams continue to fight for a spot in the final.
On Friday, the Six Gun Grill Western Province defeated neighbours, Gbets Rocks at Newlands whilst Imperial Lions secured a one-wicket victory over the Momentum Multiply Titans.
Western Province were put to the bat first when Rocks won the toss and elected to bowl.
Openers, Richard Levi and Jonathan Bird kicked-off the innings, adding 58 runs before the fall of the first wicket. Levi (18) holed to Pieter Malan off Siyabonga Mahima and Bird was caught by Hardus Viljoen with 39 runs.
Yaseen Vallie’s century anchored the Western Province innings, smashing 102 off 109 balls in his maiden List A century. Vallie shared a 75-run stand with Daniel Smith (39), and 86 runs with Gavin Kaplan (38), which stabilised the innings in the middle for the hosts.
Kaplan was clean bowled by Viljoen, and Vallie was caught by Michael Copeland off Stiaan van Zyl’s bowling as Western Province ended their innings on 300/8.
Ferisco Adams claimed four wickets to dismiss Tony de Zorzi (23), Daniel Smith (39), Mihlali Mpongwana (8), and Kyle Simmonds (9).
The Rocks responded well with a 97-run opening partnership between Ruan Terblanche and Stiaan van Zyl.
Van Zyl smashed 66 off 52, including 10 boundaries, supported by Terblanche (28) on the other end. Both batters fell to Basheeru-Deen Walters in the 18th over.

The Juskei Derby got underway in Johannesburg as the visitors, Titans, opted to bat first.
Sisanda Magala (2/30), was on the money first when he dismissed Theunis de Bruyn without any runs in the second over.
That was the first of many wickets to fall as the Lions bowling attack restricted their rivals to 145 all out.
Bjorn Fortuin delivered a man-of-the match performance with a five-wicket haul at the cost of only 34 runs in his nine overs.
Fortuin dismissed Corbin Bosch (10), trapped Ayabulela Gqamane (13) LBW, then clean bowled Aaron Phangiso (2), Bonga Chepkonga (6), and Samuel Ruwisi (0).
Gihahn Cloete was the only batter to survive the attack, with an unbeaten 62* runs that saw the Titans set a respectable total.
The Lions also got off to a not-so-great start after Neil Brand (3/22), dismissed Louren Steenkamp (0), Reeza Hendricks (2), and Joshua Richards (21), early in the innings,
Mitchell van Buuren top scored with 44 runs for the Lions, before he was caught LBW by Bosch.
Bosch and Phangiso claimed two wickets each, while Gqamane and Klaasen took single wickets.
