Tunnicliffe Century Powers Western Province To Victory

JOHANNESBURG: With the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Women’s Professional Domestic League in full swing, Fidelity Titans, Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Western Province clinched victories in the 1-Day Cup on Saturday.

Western Province were triumphant at their home ground against neighbouring rivals, Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers, at Newlands.

Western Province took the crease first, and Faye Tunnicliffe’s blistering run-a-ball century, scoring 136 off 135 deliveries, propelled the hosts to a massive total. Tunnicliffe found solid support from Delmi Tucker (46) and Kelsey Adams (40), guiding WP to a commanding score of 287/6.

In response, the Badgers encountered difficulties, with Haroline Rhodes and Chantelle van Schoor making noteworthy contributions of 27 runs each.

Nadine de Klerk led the bowling attack, orchestrating the dismissal of Badgers for 152 runs. De Klerk returned figures of 3/22, complemented by Nosipho Vezi’s 2/19, securing a massive 135-run victory for Western Province.

Meanwhile, in Durban, Hollywoodbets Dolphins chose to bowl first against their opponents, Recon Tactical Free State, at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.

Free State’s Gezelle Janse van Rensburg notched up a half-century (52), and with Yolandi Potgieter’s 36 runs, the visitors were bundled out for 150.

Ayanda Hlubi claimed a four-wicket haul in her 10 overs, dismissing Elandri Janse van Rensburg (18), Miane Smit, Katlego Nkogs (both for one), and Verunissa Reddy without scoring.

The comfortable chase for the hosts saw them reaching the target in just under 30 overs, losing only one wicket. Skipper Courtney Gounden (71) and Alexandra Candler (57*) ensured a resounding nine-wicket victory for the Dolphins.

In the Jukskei derby in Tshwane, Fidelity Titans secured a narrow six-run win (via DLS Method) against DP World Lions at SuperSport Park.

Having been put in to bat first, Titans, with half-centuries from Anneke Bosch (64) and Gandhi Jafta (50), set a respectable target, finishing the innings at 187/7.

The Lions were well within their chase at 72/3 when lightning struck, forcing the match to be called off. Kay Leigh Tapp had already facilitated the dismissals of Nonkululeko Thabethe and Sunette Viljoen-Louw, with Madison Landsman remaining unbeaten on 23*.
