Friday, 25 February 2022
GQEBERHA: An all-round dominant performance from the Momentum Multiply Titans saw them claim the first final spot after a convincing semi-final win over the Hollywoodbets Dolphins today.
The Titans won the toss and elected to field as their bowlers fuelled the attack on the Dolphins line-up, restricting them to 93/8 at the end of their 20 overs.
Tabraiz Shamsi (3/15) delivered the first hat-trick of the tournament in two overs as he made his first call to dismiss Ruan de Swardt for eight runs, followed by Bryce Parsons (0), in two consecutive deliveries in the 8th over and his first ball in the tenth over dismissed Andile Phehlukwayo, with just one run.
The seamers laid an early foundation for the Titans side as Junior Dala (2/21) inflicted the first blow, dismissing the Dolphins’ openers, Keegan Petersen with three runs and Grant Roelofsen with eight runs.
Lizaad Williams (1/13), picked up where Dala had left off to dismiss David Miller before he could score any runs in three deliveries and Dolphins found themselves on 17/3 at the end of Powerplay.
Khaya Zondo provided another anchoring performance with 33 off 33 and his 39-run partnership with Eathan Bosch (12) looked promising to recover the Dolphins’ innings before Ayabulela Gqamane (2/20), got his men, dismissing both of them in the 17th over.
Prenelan Subrayen (13*) and Kerwin Mungroo (9*) scored 24 runs between them in the last three overs to see the Dolphins end their innings on 93/8.
The Dolphins are not ones to shy away from a challenge, as they applied pressure on the Titans batters, opening the bowling with Kerwin Mungroo who recorded a career best 3/21. Mungroo dismissed Quinton de Kock (0), in the last ball of the first over, and struck again in his second over, dismissing Theunis de Bruyn for 18.
Another notable performance from 18-year-old Dewald Brevis with a batter of the match performance recording 38 off 30 balls and 0/8 in two overs.
Eathan Bosch got Heinrich Klaasen (10), who was caught by Ottniel Baartman in the deep before Brevis was caught by Petersen off Mungroo’s bowling.
Sibonelo Makhanya (18*), and Donovan Ferreira (8*) concluded the dominant performance to end the Titans innings on 94/4 in just under 15 overs, winning the game by 6 wickets.
The second semi-final is underway at St George’s Park between Six Gun Grill Western Province and Gbets Rocks.
