Playing out of the beautiful Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, the MI Cape Town franchise has already secured some of the biggest names in international cricket. Playing in arguably the prettiest ground in world cricket, the MI Cape Town attack will be spearheaded by Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada. He will be joined in the Newlands nest by the likes of Afghanistan spin wizard Rashid Khan, England’s big-hitting Liam Livingstone and swing merchant Sam Curran, as well as South Africa’s newest sensation – Dewald Brevis, aka Baby AB! The baby-faced ace has already made an impression in the Indian Premier League, and he will be itching to join a stellar cast under the mountain. MI Cape Town are joining a stellar cast of champions and will be hoping to replicate the success of the five-time IPL champions, the Mumbai Indians.

Joburg Super Kings

Team Owner: Chennai Super Kings Limited

The Super Kings, playing out of the Bullring in the heart of Gauteng, are set to make a huge impression in the #SA20 inaugural season. The franchise will be led by the internationally respected Faf du Plessis, who has already enjoyed significant success with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. The services of coach Stephen Fleming have also been brought on board, as the Super Kings look to build on the foundations they know and trust. Fleming, Du Plessis and the owners, Chennai Super Kings Limited will be hoping to bring that Chennai recipe for success across to the city of gold. Gerald Coetzee is a young gun to look out for. Paarl Royals

Team Owner: Royals Sports Group

Paarl may be known for its fine vintages and vistas, but they will now also be known for their blockbuster cricket side, aptly named the Paarl Royals. Owned by the Royal Sports Group, this regal outfit has made no secret of the strategy to be employed over the course of the first season of the #SA20 competition. Top-order superstar Jos Buttler will be the headline act, by Royals appointment, and he will be expected to continue the astonishing numbers that he has put up in Rajasthan numbers over the past few years. He will not be alone in this endeavour, however. David Miller, the South African middle-order thriller, has also been secured ahead of the auction. Miller remains one of the game’s cleanest hitters, and he will be keen to light up the Paarl skyline for the Royals. Obed McCoy has also been signed up ahead of the auction, while local fast bowler Corbin Bosch has also received an early shout, bringing his bustling energy to the change-room. Expect royal entertainment down the wine route, as the Royals of Paarl look to emulate the Rajasthan success.

Pretoria Capitals

Team Owner: JSW Sports

Things happen quickly in Pretoria, in keeping with the rhythm of most capital cities in the world. The Pretoria Capitals are looking to bring the same level of energy to their maiden voyage into the #SA20. Fast, festive and winning cricket will be the order of the day from the franchise that has links to the Delhi Capitals from the Indian Premier League. Anrich Nortje, a tearaway fast bowler who has made a name for himself in the IPL and throughout the world due to his blistering pace, is another person with ties to Delhi. Migael Pretorius, a local all-around star with a bright future, joins Nortje, who was the Capitals’ top signing prior to the auction. He already has T20 experience in competitions of this nature, having turned out for the Jamaica Tallawahs. He and Nortje eagerly await to see who will join them in the Supersport Park dugout, as they look to mount a mighty challenge for the #SA20 trophy in early 2023.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Team Owner: Sun TV Network

The sunny city of Gqeberha is awash with optimism, ahead of the arrival of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to fly their flag in the #SA20. There is no other atmosphere to rival the St George’s Park stronghold, and they will be hoping to see headline star Aiden Markram at his silky best in Sunrisers colours. The Proteas ace has been snapped up early by the Sun TV Network-owned franchise because they know what he brings to the top of the order. Joining him in the Sunrisers is the highly-skilled Ottniel Baartman, who has developed a great reputation as a bowler who can close out the innings with composure and variety. The duo were early signings for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape outfit, but this corner of the country cannot wait to see who else will be joining the #SA20 party, come 2023. Sharing the same DNA as the Sunrisers Hyderabad, this Eastern Cape franchise knows only too well that they have a wealth of local talent and support to count on. No one does cricket like Gqeberha, and the entire competition can’t wait to see what they cook up!
