28 Dec SA U19 Women Miss Out As India Takes Lead In T20 Series
JOHANNESBURG: The SA Under-19 Women commenced their five-match T20 series against India U19 Women on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, SA side optioned to field first. Ayanda Hlubi opened her first delivery with a wicket taking out captain, Shafali Verma.
South Africa continued to search for a breakthrough as Kayla Reyneke grabbed two wickets concluding her spell on 2/13.
Ayanda Hlubi returned 2/22 and Monalisa Legodi on (1/23), leading to the visitors posing a chase score of 137/5 after 20 overs.
South Africa lost three wickets before powerplay and made it difficult to chase the 138-run target. Reyneke added (20 off 25) before being dismissed by Shabnam.
Madison Landsman and Jemma Botha also contributed to the tight match with scores of (10 off 15) and (10 off 14), respectively.
India’s bowling attack restricted South Africa in chasing the target score ending their innings on 83/8 after 20 overs and losing the match by 54 runs.
The T20 series in preparation for the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup will continue on Thursday, 29 December 2022 at Steyn City School.
