26 Oct ROELOFSEN STARS AS DOLPHINS TOPPLE WARRIORS
POTCHEFSTROOM: The Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 Challenge is in full swing at the JB Marks Oval, with the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Gbets Rocks claiming important wins on Tuesday.
In the first match of the day, the Dafabet Warriors were bundled out for 68 in 13.2 overs as Dolphins secured a massive 123-run bonus point victory.
Ottniel Baartman was the chief destroyer, with a five-wicket haul in 2.2 overs. Baartman was responsible for three first ball ducks to dismiss Tiaan Van Vuuren, Glenton Stuurman and Kgaudise Molefe. He also dismissed Sinethemba Qeshile for five and Rudi Second for two runs.
Skipper, Prenelan Subrayen, and Eathan Bosch were also dangerous, returning two wickets each, and a single scalp from Jon-Jon Smuts saw the Dolphins restrict their opponents to only 68 runs.
Matthew Breetzke (27*) and Jordan Hermann (24) were the only notable contributions in the Warriors innings.
Earlier, Dolphins had won the toss and elected to bat first when opener, Grant Roelofsen, blasted 91 off 49 balls. Roelofsen’s knock included six boundaries and five maximums to steer the ship for the Durban based-side.
Dolphins also lost early wickets of Keegan Petersen, who departed for eight runs, Jon-Jon Smuts was caught behind off Kgaudise Molefe with nine runs and Tshepang Dithole trapped lbw by Wihan Lubbe with ten runs.
Khaya Zondo (36*) and Jason Smith (25*) combined for an unbeaten 40-run partnership and Dolphins ended the innings on 191/4.
The second match of the day saw the Gbets Rocks claim a four-run victory against the Momentum Multiply Titans.
After being put to the bat first, Farhaan Behardien’s 63 off 51 balls helped the Rocks end their innings on 121/8.
The Rocks lost their opening three batters within the first four overs when Leus du Plooy and Valentine Kitime departed without scoring any runs. Janneman Malan was caught by wicketkeeper, Musawenkosi Twala with ten runs.
Behardien anchored the innings, even though wickets were falling around him. His 59-run partnership with Clyde Fortuin (29) saw the Paarl based-side end the innings on 121/8 at the end of their allotted overs.
Loadshedding then disturbed the stadium floodlights, and the time lost resulted in the match being reduced to 17 overs-per-side. The revised target meant Titans will be chasing 108 runs (Duckworth-Lewis Stern method).
A sturdy Titans looked almost comfortable in their chase, with Dayyaan Galiem (25) Dewald Brevis (22), Neil Brand (20) and 18 runs from Jiveshen Pillay. Titans needed 13 runs in the last two overs and suddenly both sides were under immense pressure.
Skipper, Ferisco Adams, bowled a superb penultimate over, conceding only four runs and seeing off the dismissal of Ayabulela Gqamane.
Bamanye Xenxe was entrusted with defending nine runs in the final over. A brilliant performance from the youngster saw him clean bowl Simon Harmer before trapping Corbin Bosch lbw. Titans ended their innings on 103/8, just four runs short of the target, and suffering their first defeat in the competition.
