RAIN INTERRUPTS MULTIPLE ENCOUNTERS ON DAY 2

JOHANNESBURG: Inclement weather interrupted multiple matches in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Four-Day Domestic Series on Friday.

The Momentum Multiply Titans and Six Gun Grill Western Province could only get five overs in and the rest of the day’s play was abandoned due to persistent rain in Tshwane.

Titans were in trouble at the end of Day 1 when Beuran Hendricks claimed two scalps to see the home-side on 1/ 2. Hendricks returned on Day 2 to dismiss watchman, Junior Dala. The Titans are currently 19/3 after ten overs.

In Bloemfontein, Day 2 between the ITEC Knights and North West Dragons had to be abandoned without any play due to wet outfield.

The Gbets Rocks have taken a 362-run lead against the Dafabet Warriors in Paarl. Jordan Hermann (44) and Rudi Second (37)  were the only resistance in the Warriors innings as Achille Cloete (5/27 in 16.2 overs) led the Rocks’ bowling attack to restrict the visitors to 161 all out in Paarl.

Warriors’ bowlers did well to restrict the Rocks to 191/9 in their second innings. Shaun von Beg top scored with 51 runs and with Clyde Fortuin (47), the duo shared a 100-run partnership that restored the Rocks innings after they slumped to 76/5 in 23 Overs.

Glenton Stuurman followed up his five-wicket haul from Day 1 with four more scalps on Friday.

Rivaldo Moonsamy’s ton (148 off 164 with 26 boundaries), was supported by half-centuries from Kelly Smuts (81), Grant Thomson (69), and Ernest Kemm (56) as Northern Cape posted a first innings score of 408.

Heat bowlers continued where their batters had left off to restrict Eastern Cape Iinyathi to 135 all out.

In Polokwane, the Mpumalanga Rhinos are currently 94/4 in their second innings, trailing Limpopo Impalas by 19 runs. Sizwe Masondo’s century (157 off 184) powered the Impalas to a first innings score of 343, a hundred runs more than the Rhinos’ innings.

Kieran Kenny (7/51 in 15 overs) starred with ball to claim seven wickets, including Masondo’s dismissal.
