08 Mar Promotion To Division 1 Awaits Division 2 Teams; As The CSA 4-Day Series Concludes
JOHANNESBURG: The Cricket South Africa (CSA) 4-Day Series is set for a thrilling climax as Division 2 teams gear towards promotion to Division 1.
With only one round of matches remaining, Northern Cape Heat currently tops the log with 113 points, having concluded all their matches.
Eastern Storm and AET Tuskers are also in the running for the 4-Day Series title, with the latter also in contention for promotion against the Northern Cape Heat.
The current Division 2 logs are attached, with the remaining three matches commencing on the 9 th of March being streamed live on the CSA YouTube Channel.
Upcoming Division 2 – Four-Day Series Matches: Thurs – Sun, 09 – 12 March 2023
10h00: Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers vs AET Tuskers, Recreation Ground, Oudtshoorn
10h00: Limpopo Impalas vs Eastern Storm, Polokwane Cricket Club, Polokwane
09h00: Mpumalanga Rhinos vs Eastern Cape Iinyathi, Uplands College, White River
Below are the scenarios for the 4-Day Series and Promotion contenders.
Scenarios:
o Eastern Storm will need 25.08 points against Limpopo Impalas to finish first.
o If they get exactly 25.08 points, they will finish equal with Northern Cape Heat on points but will win the trophy by virtue of more wins.
o To get 25.08 points, Eastern Storm will need to make 354 in the first 100 overs of their first innings, get all 4 bowling bonus points and win the match.
o AET Tuskers would need to beat Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers, get 4 bowling points, and score 668 in the first 100 overs of their first innings to finish above Northern Cape Heat.
o If Eastern Storm win the series, Tuskers will be promoted to Division 1 except in the unlikely event that they finish 5 th or lower in the competition.
o If Eastern Storm don't win the series, Tuskers will need to finish 2nd to gain promotion to Division 1.
o In the event that Tuskers and Storm have the same result and the same bowling bonus points in their final matches, Tuskers will need to make 315 more runs in their first 100 overs of their 1st innings than Storm to finish ahead of Storm.
o If Tuskers win and Storm lose Tuskers will finish 2nd. If Tuskers win and Storm draw and both teams get the same bowling points, then Storm would need to score 187 more runs in the first 100 overs of their 1st innings to stay ahead of Tuskers.
o If Tuskers draw and Storm lose and both teams have the same bowling points, Tuskers will need to need to score 15 more runs in the first 100 overs of their 1st innings than Storm to go ahead of Storm.
Notes:
Bonus points are awarded in the first 100 overs of each team's 1st innings as follows:
Batting: 1 point on reaching 150 and 0.02 points for each run thereafter
Bowling: 1 point for taking 3 wickets, 2 for 5 wickets, 3 for 7 wickets and 4 for 9 wickets.
