07 Feb PINK DAY UPDATE: Celebrities galore!
The date is 9 February 2020. The venue: The Bullring. The occasion: The ‘pink-est’, most thrilling cricket match South Africa has to offer: SA’s Standard Bank Proteas will tackle ICC Cricket World Cup champions and ICC World No. 1 ranked team England.
The 3rd Momentum One-Day International, more commonly known as Pink Day is held in aid of breast cancer awareness, with Charlotte Maxeke Breast Care Clinic as the beneficiary. Funds raised are allocated towards breast cancer research.
“This event gets bigger and better year on year. This year the Imperial Wanderers will warmly welcome a whole host of additional celebrities including Saray Khumalo (first black female to summit Mount Everest); Miss SA Sasha-Lee Olivier and Major Mandisa Mfeka(SA Air Force Pilot),” Says Central Gauteng Lions Marketing and Communications Head Wanele Mngomezulu.
The day will start with a fashion parade on Corlett Drive led by twelve Soprano Harley Davidson members shuttling eleven breast cancer ambassadors, six majestic SAPS horses dressed in pink in partnership with the South African Police Service. Fans are encouraged to showcase the pink outfit at the Momentum fashion corner in support of the cause. Best dressed couples, groups and fans stand a chance to win great prizes during the change of innings.
Six breast cancer survivors will join the Standard Bank Proteas team line-up as they sing the national anthem led by the Momentum guard of honour kids.
Major Mandisa Mfeka, Ms Saray Khumalo and Miss SA Sasha Lee will spend their morning with breast cancer survivors and their families.
The stadium’s favourite ‘kiss cam’ will be converted into ‘breast exam cam’ in support of promoting early breast cancer detection. On standby is the Imperial Unjani mobile clinic to conduct free testings on the day.
Nine Imperial skydivers will fly the breast cancer awareness flag during change of innings followed by a musical performance by ShoMajozi who also performed at the American Super Bowl LIV weekend alongside Black Eyed Peas, Halsey and Diplo in Miami USA.
Supporters heading to the Imperial Wanderers Stadium will be excited to know that the venue has partnered with global giants Uber and Uber Eats. The first of its kind will see Uber Eats become the exclusive food ordering app and pick-up partner for the Stadium. This will enable spectators to easily order food from stadium vendors such as Spur (Halaal), Oliver’s Fish and Chips as well as Indian Street side food and will be notified to pick up their order once their meal is ready. The partnership is designed to limit the amount of time spent in long queues, missing out on game-changing moments.
The relationship extends to the parent company Uber, as designated Uber-pick up points have been made available to ensure seamless stadium arrival and departures.
Amplifying the atmosphere come game day, the stadium will host England’s Barmy Army and the South Africa’s Gwijo Squad, something the Squad are exceptionally excited about.
Fully embracing our South African heritage and culture, supporters are encouraged to enjoy Weber ‘Chisa Nyama’ corner where one can purchase braai meat which will be grilled on an open flame and served with a variety of sides including local favourites pap and chakalaka. The corner includes a gin bar as well as music during all intervals.
The world-class multipurpose facility is proud to once again partner with Johannesburg Pride in a campaign to openly welcome the LGBTQ community.
“Our sponsors and partners can’t wait to offer a memorable customer experience during all matches. We are pleased to welcome new partners as well retaining our existing ones. New partners include Imperial Logistics, ENZA Construction, Estee Lauder, The Star Newspaper, Pernod Ricard and Spier Wines amongst others. We are extremely proud to continue our relationship with Primedia’s 947 radio station, Sun International, Tile Africa, Castle, Sunfoil and SunBet amongst other partners. We’ve enhanced our security measures for fans safety and comfort. Our master concessionaire, Main Events Catering has extended their food product offering catering to all preferences at affordable pricing, increased variety and speed without compromising on quality.” said Wanele Mngomezulu CGL Marketing Head.
“The cricketing action is guaranteed to be absolutely incredible and a thrill a minute. We’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that the off-field action is as appetising as the game itself and we warmly welcome everyone to the Imperial Wanderers Stadium.
“PinkDay is the day where we celebrate the human spirit to overcome breast cancer. It’s a day when survivors, family, friends and cricket fans young and old, dress up in pink in support of breast cancer sufferers and their families. It’s a day where we raise awareness and money for the Charlotte Maxeke Breast Care Clinic, who work tirelessly every day to beat it. It’s also the day that we remember, joyously, the brave people who died from breast cancer. In fact, PinkDay and dressing up in pink has become so synonymous with the cause that wherever, whenever you “Pitch Up In Pink” you’re doing your bit,” concludes Central Gauteng Lions CEO Jono Leaf-Wright.
