Nail-Biting Finishes And Commanding Victories Showcase The Power Of SA’s T20 Competitions

PAARL: Durban and Paarl were at the heart of thrilling cricket action on Friday, with the Hollywoodbets Pro20 and T20 Challenge matches delivering exciting finishes.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies secured a two-wicket victory against Fidelity Titans in the Hollywoodbets Pro20, while the T20 Challenge saw dramatic wins, including a Super Over decider in Paarl and a dominant performance by the Momentum Multiply Titans in Durban.

In the Pro20 match, the Dolphins Ladies successfully chased down 116 to beat the Titans.

Robyn Searle (39), Eliz-Mari Marx (26), and Chanel Ventel (24) contributed to the Titans’ total of 116/8.

The Dolphins Ladies responded with Nondumiso Shangase (33) and Yasmeen Khan (21) leading the charge, reaching 118/8 with four balls to spare.

Following the Pro20 match in Durban, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Men’s team faced a tough challenge in the T20 Challenge against Titans.

The Centurion-based side set a formidable total of 210/3 in their 20 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 81* from Rivaldo Moonsamy and a powerful 59* from Donovan Ferreira. Lhuan-dré Pretorius also chipped in with a handy 39.

Despite strong efforts from Marques Ackerman (42) and Jon-Jon Smuts (39), the Dolphins were restricted to 159/9, with Roelof van der Merwe taking 4/31, the Titans secured a convincing 51-run victory.

Meanwhile, in Paarl, Goldrush Boland triumphed in a Super Over against the Knights after both teams were tied at 141.

Keith Dudgeon bowled the Super Over for Boland, conceding just one run. Knights’ Dian Forrester was run out by Boland skipper Clyde Fortuin, and Patrick Botha’s attempt for a maximum was caught in the deep by Pieter Malan.

Aaron Phangiso bowled the Super Over for the Knights, dismissing Grant Roelofsen with the first ball, but Fortuin’s composed batting secured the win.

Forrester had earlier impressed with both bat and ball, taking three wickets and scoring an unbeaten 42* to help the Knights level the scores.

In another T20 Challenge match, the Auto Investments North West Dragons secured a home victory at JB Marks Oval against World Sports Betting Western Province.

Duan Jansen (3/34), Kerwin Mungroo, and Wihan Lubbe (two wickets each) restricted the visitors to 142/9, with Edward Moore top-scoring for Western Province with 38.

Lubbe’s half-century (55) and Janneman Malan’s 26 runs anchored the Dragons’ chase, finishing on 146/7 in 19.4 overs to secure the win.

At DP World Wanderers, the DP World Lions delivered a commanding performance against Dafabet Warriors, posting an imposing 239/4.

Wandile Makwethu led with a half-century (55), supported by Mitchell van Buuren (41*), Reeza Hendricks (41), Connor Esterhuizen (40), and Delano Potgieter (36).

In the Lions defence, Junaid Dawood starred with the ball, returning 5/30 to restrict the Warriors to 177/6, despite efforts from Andile Mogakane (41) and Patrick Kruger (34).

Friday’s matches showcased the thrilling action and fierce competition that define both the Hollywoodbets Pro Series and the T20 Challenge. The nail-biting finishes, standout performances, and dramatic moments across the games highlight the depth of talent in South African cricket.
