HUGE VICTORY FOR NW DRAGONS AS THEY MOVE ON TOP OF THE LOG

GQEBERHA: The CSA T20 Challenge was in full swing today with more nail-biting finishes and the first bonus point of the tournament.

The North West Dragons took on the ITEC Knights in the first match of the day, with the Dragons winning the toss and electing to field first.

North West Dragons collapsed the ITEC Knights batting unit early in the game as Dragons’ spinner, Senuran Muthusamy, delivered a bowler of the match performance of (2/8 in 4 overs), supported by Johannes Diseko (2/19 in 4 overs) and Duan Jansen 1/16 in his 4 overs restricting the Knights to 94/9 at the end of their innings.

With the target set on 95 runs, Wesley Marshall and Heino Kuhn got off to an explosive start. Their 69-run opening partnership, Marshall’s 43 off 29 (5 fours and 2 sixes) and Heino Kuhn’s unbeaten 30 off 20 (5 fours) saw the Dragons over the halfway mark by the end of Powerplay and finishing the game on 95/2 with 9 overs to spare.

An all-round performance with both bat and ball, complemented by great fielding (3 run outs) helped the North West Dragons secure an 8 wicket and a bonus point victory in just 10.1 overs.

The second match of the day between Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Imperial Lions, Lions won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hollywoodbets Dolphins’ bowlers, Jason Smith (3/16 in 3 overs) and Ruan de Swardt (3/32 in 4 overs) created trouble for the Lions batters, but Shane Dadswell’s 42 off 28 balls (3 boundaries and 2 sixes) and Sisanda Magala’s 37 off 27 (4 boundaries and 1 six) brought back the innings to help the Imperial Lions set a defendable total of 156/8.

The Imperial Lions bowlers also had a great start as they dismissed the Hollywoodbets Dolphins’ top order early. Grant Roelofsen (34 off 26) and a 60-run partnership between Khaya Zondo (35 off 32 with 3 boundaries) and Jason Smith (39 off 34 with 2 boundaries) saw the Hollywoodbets Dolphins on 148/8 in their 20 overs.

A great bowling performance from Bjorn Fortuin (2/16 in 4 overs), Sisanda Magala (2/26 in 4 overs) and Malusi Siboto (2/23 in 4 overs) who dismissed Jason Smith and Prenelan Subrayen in the final over as the Imperial Lions secured an 8-run victory over the Hollywoodbets Dolphins.
