21 Oct Hollywoodbets Pro Series Weekend Wrap: Lions and Western Province Dominate
JOHANNESBURG: The Hollywoodbets Pro Series continued in full swing this past weekend as the DP World Lions faced off against the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers at DP World Wanderers Stadium, and the Fidelity Titans took on World Sports Betting Western Province at SuperSport Park.
Hollywoodbets Pro50 – Saturday: 19 October
In Johannesburg, Badgers opted to field first after winning the toss. Lions capitalized on this, with impressive half-centuries from Sunette Viljoen-Louw (95) and Fay Cowling (82), leading the team to a formidable total of 299/8 in their 50 overs.
Julandi Saayman stood out for the Badgers, taking 4 wickets in her 8-over spell.
In response, the Badgers’ chase was led by Nicolien Janse van Rensburg (60) and Mochelle May (58), but their efforts fell short as the team was bowled out for 183, handing the Lions a commanding 116-run victory.
Cowling further showcased her all-round skills with a bowling performance of 4/38.
In Centurion, Western Province elected to field after winning the toss and delivered a dominant bowling display, bundling out the Titans for 145.
Lara Goodall (58) and Faye Tunnicliffe (46*) then guided Western Province to 147/4, securing a comfortable 6-wicket victory in just under 28 overs.
Hollywoodbets Pro20 – Sunday: 20 October
In the Pro20 encounter, Western Province successfully defended their total of 148/7, with notable contributions from Goodall (38), Babette de Leede (31), and Kelsey Adams (28*).
The Titans, in reply, were restricted to 131/6, falling 17 runs short. K
At the Wanderers, Lions continued their strong form in the Pro20 as they defended a modest total of 141.
Despite being bowled out, the Lions’ bowlers rallied to dismiss the Badgers for just 99 runs, securing a 42-run victory.
