DOLPHINS THUMP WESTERN PROVINCE TO SECURE SEMI-FINAL SPOT

POTCHEFSTROOM: It’s the final stages of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 Challenge and the race is on to secure a place in the semi-finals. The Momentum Multiply Titans and Gbets Rocks have already qualified with one game remaining.

Rocks secured their spot after a comfortable five-wicket victory against the North West Dragons on Saturday afternoon.

JP Duminy’s men were chasing 151 runs as Clyde Fortuin powered to 57 off 29 balls to set his side up for a comfortable chase.

Rain stopped play after the seventh over of the Rocks innings and the match was reduced to 17 overs via Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. The Rocks were 68/1 when umpired called the players off the field and to make up for the time lost, the revised target saw them chasing 131 runs. Fortuin and Janneman Malan (34) continued to an 82-run partnership which made it easier for everyone to chip in and reach the target with eleven balls to spare.

North West Dragons were put to the bat first as a steady 68-run partnership between Heino Kuhn (58 off 44) and Lesego Senokwane (46 off 43) helped the Dragons set a competitive total. The Dragons were 150/5 at the end of their 20 overs.

The Six Gun Grill Western Province stumbled in their innings and could only put up 73 runs before they were all bowled out. Gorge Linde was the only solid contributor with 30 runs in 33 balls.

Daryn Dupavillon, was the top order destroyer, seeing off openers, Gavin Kaplan for one and Daniel Smith with two runs to return best figures of 2/5 in three overs.

An easy chase for the Dolphins who reached the target in less than 10 overs at a loss of three wickets.

Grant Roelofsen (29*) and Khaya Zondo (17*) saw the innings off to secure a seven-wicket bonus-point victory for the Durban-based side.
