Dolphins Secure Massive Win Against Dragons And Titans Upset Warriors In Gqeberha

JOHANNESBURG: The Momentum Multiply Titans took home a four-wicket win against Dafabet Warriors in latest round of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) 4 – Day Series.

In a must win encounter for both teams to keep their 4-Day Series title hopes alive, the two teams managed to get a few overs in on a rain interrupted Day 1.

Batting first, Warriors declared their first innings on 281/8 after half centuries Matthew Breetzke (68), Sinethemba Qeshile (66), and an unbeaten 52* from Beyers Swanepoel.

Titans batted and declared on 141/9, with solid contributions from Jiveshan Pillay (45) and Dewald Brevis (33).

In a quick turn of events, the hosts declared their second innings on 134/4 after 17 overs, noting Lesiba Ngoepe’s 45 off 36 and Diego Rosier’s 26 ball 32.

With the target set on 275 runs, Donavan Ferreira was the hero of the day with an unbeaten 116 off 103. Ferreira was well supported by Musa Twala (44) and Brevis (46) as the visitors successfully chased the target, ending the match on 275/6. Ferreira also backed his batting performance with two scalps in each of the innings.

Warriors’ Swanepoel was the pick of the bowlers, returning 2/34 and 4/55, respectively.
In Paarl, the Gbets Rocks were hosted DP World Lions as inclement weather resulted in an abandoned Day 1.

Lions chose to bat first as their batting unit continued to accumulate runs in the series. Mitchell van Buuren (92 off 159) fell eight runs short of a century, cleaned bowled by Imran Manack (3/84) after 100 overs.

Openers, Joshua Richards (82 off 158) and Dominic Hendricks (34) had put up 85 runs before Hendricks fell to Shaun von Berg. Richards found another partner in Reeza Hendricks (67) as the pair shared 83 runs for the second wicket as the former also fell to von Berg’s spell. An all round batting effort saw the visitors dismissed for 421 all out.

Von Berg was the most successful bowler for the Rocks, returning 5/115 in 34.3 overs.

In their first innings, Rocks were dismissed for 93 runs. Stiaan van Zyl was the sole contributor for with 59 runs.

Bjon Fortuin led the attack to register 4/47 in his 20 overs whilst Sisanda Magala (2/11) and Malusi Siboto (2/11) claimed two scalps each.

The hosts returned for their second innings trailing by 328 runs when van Zyl returned with an unbeaten century (106* off 184), supported by Clyde Fortuin (83* off 148) on Day 4 to end the match in a draw.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins and North West Dragons encounter ended within the first three days in Durban.

Dolphins, who opted to bat first amassed a first innings score of 348 runs, thanks to Jason Smith’s century (136 off 248), backed by a half century from Khaya Zondo (79). Another solid contribution came from Jon Jon Smuts in his 42 off 60.

Eldred Hawken (4/34) was the most successful bowler for the Dragons, and newcomer, James King also registered his name in his 3/100 in just under 30 overs.

The hosts were destructive with ball, restricting the Dragons to 173 and 104 all out in their respective innings.

Smuts returned 4/52 and 5/54 in the two innings. Prenelan Subrayen took eight wickets I total, following his five-wicket haul in the first innings with three scalps as Dolphins walked away with a massive innings and 71-run victory.
