18 Jan CSA Members’ Council and Board statement on passing of Kabelo Molopyane (1975 – 2021)
JOHANNESBURG: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has today learnt with shock and sadness of the passing of Motsweding FM Sports show anchor Mr Kabelo “KB” Molopyane who passed away on Sunday morning after a long illness.
Mr Molopyane or “KB” as he was affectionately known, started his broadcasting career in the drama department of Motsweding FM in 1996 after which he joined Soshanguve Radio in 1997 as a presenter, where his insights and distinctive voice endeared him to many. In 2000 he joined Radio Mafisa in Rustenburg as a sport presenter and continued to captivate the imagination of his audiences with his deep understanding of many sporting codes.
He was an eloquent presenter with an impeccable command of Setswana. Mr Molopyane was born in Makolokwe, a village in the outskirts of Brits in the North West Province.
Mr Molopyane joined Motsweding FM in 2002 as all-rounder. He however excelled in all the slots he was allocated. This made him the most popular and versatile presenter at the radio station. He rose through the ranks to present a variety of primetime shows until settled in on the Sport Show.
CSA communicated a number of its programmes on Mr Molopyane’s radio shows. He was well-informed on cricket-related issues and had a passion for the sport and its development at grassroots levels. His passing has indeed left a void in cricketing commentary.
CSA sends its condolences to his wife, children, family, Motsweding FM and its Sports team as well as the entire sports community, whom he has served with distinction over the years.
