CSA CONGRATULATES MOMENTUM PROTEAS ON HISTORIC WINDIES SERIES WIN

JOHANNESBURG: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has congratulated the Momentum Proteas on their historic first ever WODI series win over the West Indies in the Caribbean after they won the third match by 8 wickets last night to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Their previous two series in the West Indies in 2013 and 2018 had both seen the honours shared.

“Congratulations to our ladies on this magnificent achievement,” commented CSA Acting Chief Executive Pholetsi Moseki. “All three their victories have been by decisive margins and will strengthen their standing as the No. 2 ranked side in this format.

“Going back to the start of last year they have now won successive ODI series against New Zealand (3-0) and India (4-1), both away from home, as well as a 3-0 success against Pakistan before this latest triumph. This is a remarkable record of consistency and growth.

“They are clearly well on target to improve on their semi-final performance at the last Women’s World Cup in 2017 when they travel to New Zealand early next year for the next edition.

“Our ladies are becoming household names around the world at global tournament’s such as the ECB One Hundred and CA’s Women’s Big Bash League,” Mr Moseki noted.

“Our warmest congratulations go to captain Dane van Niekerk, head coach Hilton Moreeng and all the players and support staff. You are indeed making our nation proud.

“It has been a wonderful week for South African cricket as our men’s team have also achieved a series win in Sri Lanka and will bid for a clean sweep today as will our ladies later in the week.”
