BACK-TO-BACK VICTORIES FOR DOLPHINS AND ROCKS FALL SHORT

POTCHEFSTROOM: The Hollywoodbets Dolphins have secured comfortable victories in two consecutive days in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 Challenge.

Dolphins set themselves for an easy chase against the DP World Lions on Wednesday. Thanks to the opening partnership of Keegan Petersen (73* off 51) and Grant Roelofsen (44 off 40). The pair combined for 106-runs before Roelofsen was caught by Evan Jones off Codi Yusuf in the 13th over.

Petersen found another partner in Jon-Jon Smuts (37* off 19) and together put up 61-runs to take the Dolphins to a comfortable nine-wicket victory.

Earlier, Lions won the toss and elected to bat first to set the target on 164 runs.

Mitchell van Buuren top scored for the Lions, with 42 runs off 29 balls. His 73-run partnership with Wiaan Mulder (39) helped the Lions set a competitive total.

Bowler of the match, Daryn Dupavillion, claimed three wickets to dismiss Cameron Delport (27), van Buuren, and Muhammad Manack for none.

Two scalps from Ottniel Baartman and one wicket for Prenelan Subrayen saw the Lions on 163/6 at the end of their allotted overs.

The ITEC Knights took on the Gbets Rocks in the evening match. The latter won the toss and opted to put their opponents to the bat first.

Upfront, Jacques Snyman (53 off 30), Raynard Van Tonder (45 off 28), and 33* off 23 from Aubrey Swanepoel powered the Knights to end the innings on 179/6.

Bamanye Xenxe delivered yet another brilliant performance with the ball, returning figures of 4/30 in his four overs.

The Rocks reply wasn’t what they would have hoped for. The team struggled to form partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals.

Contributions from Michael Copeland (36 off 21), Leus du Plooy (25 off 17), and an explosive 41-run partnership from Imraan Manack (30) and Hardus Viljoen (20) helped the Paarl based-side narrow down the target.

Patrick Kruger (2/15 in 1.4 overs), was tasked with defending 12 runs in the final over with Rocks already eight wickets down. His first delivery trapped Xenxe lbw, and the last man, Shaun von Berg managed to rotate strike. Kruger’s next delivery to Viljoen was smashed for a six before edging to keeper, Gihahn Cloete and the Knights took home a four-run victory.
