CSA AND SASA II ANNOUNCE TRI-NATIONS SERIES

TSHWANE: Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASA-II) is thrilled to host the much-anticipated international Tri-Nation Series for persons with intellectual disabilities.

The series, which had been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will take place in Tshwane from 10-21 November 2023 at the Tuks Oval and the final match set to take place at SuperSport Park.

Representatives from three nations; namely South Africa, Australia, and England, will compete in the tournament, showcasing their talent and sportsmanship among individuals with intellectual disabilities.

South Africa, as the host nation, has been preparing for the tournament and selection processes were undertaken to identify the most competitive cricketers to represent the country.

Commenting on the team’s preparations, SA II Coach, Mark Arthur, said;

“The journey began with 26 talented cricketers, before the selection pool was refined to 18 of Mzansi’s finest players.

“The preparatory phase included three comprehensive training camps. The first camp took place in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal from November 25 to November 29, 2021. During this week-long camp, players honed their skills and teamwork under the watchful eye of their coach. The second training camp was held in Kimberly, Northern Cape from April 7 to April 11, 2022. This camp aimed to assess the progress of the cricketers and finalize the squad for the tournament.

“The final and crucial training camp before the tournament was conducted in Tshwane from October 12 –15 October 2023. This camp served as a platform for the players to fine-tune their abilities, ensuring they are in peak form for the competition.

“SASA-II extends its heartfelt gratitude to Cricket South Africa and all stakeholders who have made this event possible,” said Arthur.

CSA Director of Cricket, Enoch Nkwe, said;

“The SASA II Tri-Nation Series is a testament to the indomitable spirit and passion of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

“This tournament not only highlights their cricketing prowess but also exemplifies the power of sports in breaking barriers, defeating stereotypes and fostering inclusivity.

“CSA is honoured to be part of this initiative, demonstrating our commitment to inclusivity, and empowering every aspiring cricketer, regardless of their background.

“We believe this tournament will not only inspire but also foster a deeper sense of unity and camaraderie among cricketing nations," said Nkwe.
