20 Feb WARRIORS SET THE TONE ON DAY ONE AT THE WANDERERS
JOHANNESBURG: The Dafabet Warriors have taken the lead on Day 1 as the Cricket South Africa (CSA) 4-Day Domestic Series continued on Sunday.
Warriors opted to bet first against hosts, DP World Lions, in Johannesburg.
Opener, Jordan Hermann’s half century (71 off 90) was supported by an unbeaten century stand from Rudi Second (66*) and Sinethemba Qeshile (47*).
Solid partnerships were the key to Warriors’ success on day one. Hermann shared 75 runs with fellow opener, Kyle Jacobs (18), followed by 61 runs with Diego Rosier (43) for the second wicket.
Bjorn Fortuin trapped Jacobs’ lbw, whilst Hermann was caught behind by Ryan Rickelton off Malusi Siboto. Tladi Bokako saw off Rosier, Lutho Sipamla dismissed Matthew Breetzke with five runs and Warriors were 270/4 at the end of the day’s play.
In Bloemfontein, Gerald Coetzee (5/56) registered a five-wicket haul as ITEC Knights bowled out Hollywoodbets Dolphins for 253.
Coetzee was responsible for the dismissals of Tshepang Dithole (18), Keegan Petersen (26), Khaya Zondo (11), Eathan Bosch (53) and Keshav Maharaj (28).
After opting to bat first, Dolphins struggled to form partnerships, with wickets falling regularly.
Eathan Bosch’s half century and his 77-run stand with Grant Roelofsen (29) steadied the inning before a quick 28 off 17 from Maharaj and the visitors ended the innings on 253/10.
Inclement weather prevented play in two matches between Momentum Multiply Titans and Gbets Rocks in Pretoria and North West Dragons and Six Gun Grill Western Province in Potchefstroom respectively.
