02 Jan CSA CONGRATULATES 1-DAY CUP CHAMPIONS
JOHANNESBURG: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has congratulated the DP World Lions and Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers after being crowned champions of the 2022/23 CSA 1-Day Cup in the respective divisions.
The summer of cricket was amplified with festive fun for the entire family at the DP World Wanderers as the 22/23 CSA 1-Day Cup concluded in Johannesburg. This included kiddies’ fun with play areas and live entertainment from the renowned DJ Zinhle and Lions Brass Band.
Lions secured a consecutive Division One title after a 62-run victory in a high-scoring final against the Six Gun Grill Western Province on Thursday.
On Wednesday afternoon, Badgers emerged victorious against last season’s champions, AET Tuskers, in Pietermaritzburg.
CSA Head of Cricket Pathways, Edward Khoza, congratulated the two teams on their achievement.
“Congratulations to the DP World Lions on successfully defending the title in their backyard at the Bullring. They have been consistent in the entire competition and the hard work has earned them the top honours.
“Huge congratulations go out to the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers, whose hard work has officially paid off after falling short last season.
“This is a crucial season for all teams to perform at their best as the relegation/promotion system awaits when the season concludes. It has been amazing to witness how the different teams approach the new structure and I strongly believe seeing it come to life will bring back the excitement from all core fans, whilst attracting new supporters of the game,” Khoza continued.
“A massive applause to all the teams that took part in the competition, showcasing the abundance of talent that we have in the country.
“CSA equally thanks all affiliates, sponsors, administrators, fans and the media for making this competition the success it was as we continue to grow the domestic game.
“This season also marked an important cause for CSA, as we take a firm stand and committed to highlighting issues that affect women and children in the county with the call to action for all our cricketers and supporters to take a stand and make the pledge to #ENDGBV,” Khoza concluded.
