LIONS TRIUMPH OVER GARDEN ROUTE BADGERS WITH HELP OF WEATHER

JOHANNESBURG – The DP World Lions delivered a much-improved performance with the bat to earn their first CSA Women’s Provincial One-Day Cup victory with a 36-run win over the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers in a weather-affected clash at the DP World Wanderers Stadium on Saturday.

In Polokwane, the Eastern Storm defeated hosts, Limpopo by two wickets to continue their form in the only Division Two encounter.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the Lions survived an early setback to put on a competitive score of 206 all out, with Raisibe Ntozakhe top scoring with 41 off 51 deliveries, including five fours.

Garden Route Badgers duo, Jané Winster (3 / 32) and Micaéla Andrews (3 / 53) were the in-form bowlers for the away side, picking up three wickets apiece to help keep the Lions honest.

With the bat, the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals as Lehlohonolo Sardick (2 / 10) struck with early blows through her right-arm medium pacers to help leave the Badgers reeling at 88 / 6 after 20 overs before the players were taken off the field due to inclement weather.

With the overhead conditions not improving, the match was finally called as the Lions secured the result by 36 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

In Division Two, Alysia Rudolph starred with an all-round display, recording figures of 2 / 24 with the ball before an unbeaten 56 off 46 balls helped the Eastern Storm successfully chase down Limpopo’s first innings total of 163 / 9 after their allotted 50 overs.

Masingita Khoza’s (5 / 35) impressive five-wicket haul was the highlight of the day for Limpopo.

The domestic cricket action continues on Sunday, 08 October with the CSA Women’s Provincial T20 Cup from 10h00 SAST on Pitch Vision.
