21 Feb TITANS SECURE SEMIFINAL SPOT & WARRIORS MOVE UP THE LOG WITH A BONUS POINT
GQEBERHA: The CSA T20 Challenge continues at St George’s Park, with two semi-final spots confirmed, the teams remain hopeful and continue to battle it out for the two remaining spots in the knockouts.
The first match of the day saw the Six-Gun Grill Western Province Blitz suffer their first defeat in the tournament against the Momentum Multiply Titans. The WP Blitz were put to the bat first after Titans won the toss and elected to field.
The Titans were off to a great start, dominating the WP Blitz line-up with the early dismissal of Richard Levi (0) and Jonathan Bird (8). But an 85-run stand between Tony de Zorzi (45 off 38 with 1 boundary and 3 maximums) and Dane Vilas (60* off 48, 4 boundaries and 2 maximums) steadied the innings for the Blitz.
Tabraiz Shamsi (1/36 in 4 overs) dismissed de Zorzi, followed by Dewald Brevis (1/19 in 3 overs) dismissing George Linde for 8, and Lizaad Williams dismissed Wayne Parnell for 17 runs as the WP Blitz ended their innings on 140/5.
The opening partnership of Theunis de Bruyn (37 off 29, 1 boundary and 2 sixes) and Quinton de Kock (43 off 34, 7 boundaries), continued with a 79-run stand today before the fall of the first wicket.
Dewald Brevis’s 26 off 20 and 1/19, followed by Heinrich Klaasen (33* off 25, with 1 boundary and 2 sixes) and Sibonelo Makhanya (3*), brought the Titans to 144/13 in 19.3 overs, winning the game by 7 wickets.
In the second match of the day, the Gbets Warriors won the toss and elected to field first against the Imperial Lions.
A great knock from Reeza Hendricks with the highest score of the day (61 of 41 with 9 boundaries), supported by Juan Landsberg (21*) and Dominic Hendricks (18*) as Lions ended their innings on 142/6.
Warriors’ bowling attack delivered a great performance with Tsepo Ndwandwa’s 2/16 in 3 overs, claiming the wickets of Kagiso Rapulana (6) and Sisanda Magala (2,) and Lizo Makhosi’s 2/26 in 4 overs, with the wickets of Shane Dadswell (9) and Bjorn Fortuin (5).
Wihan Lubbe’s 46 of 30 (6 boundaries and 1 six) and bowling stats of 1/31 in 4 overs as he dismissed Mitchell van Buuren for 13, provided a solid start for the Warriors. His knock and Lesiba Ngoepe’s 38* off 24 (5 boundaries and 1 six) played a great role in their innings this afternoon, with the support of Tristan Stubbs (11), Diego Rosier (17), the Warriors were 144/5 in 15.5 overs, securing a 5-wicket and bonus point victory.
Malusi Siboto (2/21 in 2 overs) and Bjorn Fortuin (1/20 in 4 overs) reached career milestones today with 100 T20 wickets. Siboto claimed the wickets of Smuts (2) and Stubbs (11) while Fortuin dismissed Rosier (17).
Tomorrow the Hollywoodbets Dolphins take on the Gbets Rocks at 10h00, followed by Imperial Lions and ITEC Knights at 14h30.
