TIAAN BRITS played a remarkable innings of 93 for Mpumlanga on the fourth day of the CSA under-13 cricket week at Potchefstroom but it was not quite enough to get his side across the line as they lost by four runs to host province, North West.

The format has now switched to 50 overs matches for the last two days of the tournaments although not many teams were able to bat out their full quota of overs.

Brits came within seven runs of scoring the second century of the week but what made his innings remarkable was that the other 10 batsmen made just 24 runs between them with none of them reaching double figures. Extras was the second top scorer with 17.

The match-winner for North West was Jannie Claassens (6/27).

Jonathan Bird continued his consistent form at the week for Western Province with his innings of 65 against Easterns which took his aggregate for the week to almost 200 from his four innings. Pheko Moletsane, who has also been a consistent scorer for Free State, made 35 against Zimbabwe while Van Zyl Smit scored 59 for North West.

Luwanda Nogqala of Border had the best bowling return of the day, taking 6/20 in a losing cause against Eastern Province while Anij Nagar took 5/18 for Mpumalanga, Ethan Webb of Northerns 4/11 and Anele Mtiya of Boland 4/12.
