Evodia Yekile and Nadine De Klerk took seven wickets between them as they helped set up a seven-wicket victory for the South Africa Emerging women over England’s Academy when the sides met in Pretoria on Sunday.
The visitors were bowled out for 138 as Yekile and De Klerk returned impressive figures of 4/26 and 3/25 respectively after they put them in to bat first at Hammanskraal Oval.
Scores in the 30s by Georgie Boyce (39 off 75 balls) and Eleanor Threlkeld (33 off 43) in the tail-end of the innings was all the England Academy could manage, with key strikes by Raisibe Ntozakhe (1/24) and Odine Kirsten (1/26) insured that the visitors were bowled out cheaply.
South Africa’s reply got off to a solid start, thanks to a 90-run opening stand between captain, Tazmin Brits (68 off 59 deliveries, 10 fours) and Lara Goodall (30 off 50, 2 fours). Gandhi Jafta (12* 28) and Nkuli Thabethe (8* off 8) had little to do as the hosts cantered to victory with 23.3 overs to spare.
England’s Emma Lamb took three wickets for 31.
South Africa will take on the unbeaten Australia Under-19s in the One-Day final on Saturday, 28 April. Before that however, England Women’s Academy will play Australia in a T20 match at Sinoville Cricket Club on Tuesday, 24 April, with the hosts going up against Australia on Thursday, 26 April in the same format at Groenkloof Oval.
