Rain was the big winner on the penultimate day of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) National Women’s Week on Saturday with all four matches abandoned due to the inclement weather in Bloemfontein.

Northerns were scheduled to play Western Province, Gauteng were due to meet North West, Boland were set to take on Easterns and Free State were pinned together with Border for day four.

The first and last of those games did see some action, before they were called off. Northerns had reached 175/6 in 44.2 overs thanks to an unbeaten 72 (85 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) by Momentum Proteas batter, Mignon du Preez at St Andrews.

Delmi Tucker (28) and Michaela Kirk (27) had also chipped in with useful contributions by that stage, with Stacey Lackay claiming 2/42 for Province.

Western Province will now face Gauteng in the final at St Andrews College.

In the other game that started, Free State were 31 without loss in 8.2 overs when the wet conditions struck.

The final day from the National Women’s Week takes place on Sunday. To follow live scores from Bloemfontein, go to www.websports.co.za.
