Curtis Campher of the bizhub Highveld Lions took an outstanding 7/26 as his side claimed a convincing, nine-wicket triumph over the Warriors on the second day of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Franchise Cubs Week in Stellenbosch on Friday.

The young Lions restricted the Eastern Cape side to 164 in 39.4 overs after electing to field first. Campher’s spell came off 7.4 overs and was the death knell for the Warriors’ innings. He accounted for the top and middle orders in their entirety, the only batsmen to show resistance being Sinethemba Qeshile who hit 61 runs from 100 deliveries, Cole Schoeman (37 off 39 balls) and Campbell de Wet (24 off 36).

Josh Richards and Bryce Parsons shared a 154-run opening stand in the Lions’ reply before the run out of the latter for 65 off 68 deliveries. Richards soldiered on, returning unbeaten for an impressive 83 off 80, Jocob Miltz chipping in with five runs as he accompanied Richards to success.

At Distell Oval, the VKB Knights held their nerve an clinched victory by one wicket over the Multiply Titans. The latter posted 191/7 at the end of their 50 overs after winning the toss. Top scores came from opener Francois van Heerden (66 off 76) and Musawenkosi Twala (43* off 52).

Calvin Flanegan led the Knights’ response, returning 83 not out (78 balls). The only other batsman to cash in was opener Divilio Ridgard, who hit 55 off 98 balls. The Titans’ Sibusiso Maseko (3/30) and Gideon Peters (3/48) shared six wickets between them in their attempt to secure victory for their side, but the Knights won the battle in the end.

In the last match of the day, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins cantered to a seven-wicket win over the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras at Coronations.

Sean Gilson was the chief destroyer for the KZN side, taking a sensational 5/7 to help bowl out the Cobras for 165. Jonathan Bird and Samuel Henderson top scored with 75 and 46 runs respectively.

Thamsanqa Khumalo was once again in the runs for the Dolphins, top scoring with 43 from 88 balls before retiring hurt. They won in 43.3 overs.
