Cedric Landers was 52 not out in Wynberg Boys’ High School’s nine-wicket triumph over Prestige College in the afternoon lap of the second day of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge finals weekend in Stellenbosch on Saturday.
Landers and Ebrahiem Sama (43 off 49) shared a 100-run opening stand in their reply to Prestige’s 101/8 before the latter lost his wicket with his side needing just one run to win.
Earlier in the match, Kyle Pluke took three wickets for 13 to restrict Prestige to the gettable total. Polite Shingange, once again put his hand up with the bat, top scoring with 30 from 35 deliveries, but it was not enough runs on the board to waylay the highly motivated Wynberg side.
They will face Hudson Park in the second semi-final of the day at Tassies Oval.
In other matches, Hudson Park beat St Andrew’s College by 42 runs thanks to an unbeaten 41 off 51 balls by Sinethemba Qeshile, leading his side to 117/3 at the end of their 20 overs at Tassies.
Bradley Mauer was the pick of the bowlers for Hudson during St Andrews’ reply, taking 3/24 with SA under-19s players, Jason Niemand and Akhona Mnyaka chipping in with two wickets each, skittling the Bloemfontein side out for just 75 runs.
St Andrews will face St Stithians tomorrow in the first semi-final at Coetzenburg Oval.
In the last match, Glenwood High School failed to secure a win today when they slipped to a 21-run loss to Centurion Hoërskool. The latter will take on Selborne College in the Plate final at Bridge House School tomorrow.
