Mitchell van Buuren scored the only century of the day and took three wickets to help the Multiply Titans secure a second, consecutive victory in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Franchise Academy Limited Overs Week in Potchefstroom on Thursday.
The Pretoria side edged the Hollywoodbets Dolphins by three wickets after the middle order, led by Van Buuren, helped the Titans recover after their top order collapsed in their chase of the 247-run target set by the KZN side.
The gutsy Coca-Cola South Africa under-19s all-rounder coming in at number four, smashed 103 runs from just 93 deliveries (12 fours, 3 sixes), rescuing his side when they were languishing on 30/3 after Tumelo Koto (5), Vaughn Humphreys (1) and Dalen Mmako (1) fell cheaply.
Mlungiseli Gcado (3/51) was the pick of the bowlers, keeping the match interesting as he made vital breakthroughs in key moments, his victims including Van Buuren, but Robin Herman, Jandre Erasmus and fellow SA U19s player, Ruan de Swardt contributed crucial knocks of 45, 43* and 33 runs respectively to get their side over the line.
Earlier in the day, the Dolphins were restricted to 246/8 after winning the toss and electing to bat first at Puk Oval. Luke Schlemmer continued his good form with the bat, returning unbeaten for 93 off 92 balls (11 fours). Other notable contributions came from Blayde Capell (55 off 73) and opener Richard Wissing (41 off 42), but it proved not to be a defendable total in the end.
Luvuyo Nkese of the Titans and Van Buuren kept the wickets falling, returning figures of 4/48 and 3/28 respectively.
In other matches; the Warriors continued their winning ways when they snuck a two-wicket triumph over the BuildNat Cape Cobras, while the VKB Knights bounced back from their defeat yesterday, claiming a two-wicket victory over the bizhub Highveld Lions.
