VAUGHN VAN JAARSVELD hit an unbeaten century before rain prevented the Hollywoodbets Dolphins from seizing the advantage even further on day two of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Warriors at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban on Friday.
The left-hander made a free-flowing 103 not out (119 balls, 10 fours, 3 sixes) as the hosts reached 243/2 in the 49 overs that were possible, before the wet conditions stopped play for the day just over 15 minutes after tea.
Divan van Wyk also played a central role with his 95 (158 balls, 12 fours, 1 six) ensuring the Dolphins dominated.
Both teams were already interrupted once during the morning session by the rain, but the home side did just enough to ensure they had moved into a 12-run lead as they replied positively to the visitors’ first-innings 231.
They began on the second morning with the total on 39/0 with Senuran Muthusamy (18) helping Van Wyk put on 59 for the first wicket, before he edged Sisanda Magala to Clyde Fortuin.
Then came the big partnership of the day when 145 runs were added for the second wicket.
But, with Van Wyk just five shy of his ton, he too edged Magala (2/52) to Fortuin shortly before the tea break.
But Van Jaarsveld did reach his 15th first-class ton before the early stumps were drawn with the Dolphins in a strong position to bat once and push on for victory.
