NADINE de Klerk hit 113 from 55 deliveries to set up Northerns’ 111-run win in their first round of T20 matches against North West in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Girls under-19 Week at St Albans College in Pretoria on Saturday.
De Klerk’s 113 included 19 fours and two sixes, while Tebogo Macheke chipped in with a 41-ball 42 to help their side to 183/9 at the end of their allotted 20-over innings after electing to bat first.
North West’s Liné du Preez (3/33) and Ane van Wyk (3/35) were the pick of the bowlers, taking six wickets between them.
Their batting reply did not go as well however. Paulinah Mashishi was too good, taking 4/14 to restrict North West to 72/7.
In other matches at St Albans, Eastern Province beat Easterns by 43 runs, KZN Coastal suffered a 28-run loss to Western Province and Gauteng claimed victory by 29 runs over Border.
At Pretoria Boys High, Mpumalanga beat Limpopo by 24 runs. The former were helped to 101/5 thanks to Shania-Lee Swart’s 54 after being asked to bat first. Cathleen Horne returned figures of 3/11.
In reply, Limpopo could only make 77/8. Michaela Naude top scored with 34 as Katie Prior took four wickets for just 15 to bowl her side to victory.
In other matches at the same venue, Northern Cape claimed a seven-wicket win over Boland, KZN Inland beat South Western Districts by 31 runs and, in the lowest scoring match of the round, Kei beat Free State by nine wickets.
Olu Ceba, Namhla Njani, Yolanda Ndzungu and Sibabalwe Takatshane took two wickets each, skittling Free State out for 41.
Kei’s hunt for victory was helped along by 20 runs in extras conceded by Free State, while Yamnkela Zangqa returned unbeaten with 14 runs off 19 deliveries.
