Warriors go top after washout in PE

THE Warriors and BuildNat Cape Cobras were left frustrated by rain on Friday as their T20 Challenge clash was abandoned without a ball being bowled at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth.

Wet weather through the day in the Eastern Cape city meant the 18h00 start was delayed, but there were signs of improvement around an hour later when the covers were removed and the outfield cleared

But the rain returned and refused to completely leave, forcing umpires Shaun George and Bongani Jele to call off proceedings just after 20h00.

The two points gained from the shared result did, however, help the hosts knock the Multiply Titans off top spot with a game to play.

Both sides have 29 points, but the Warriors head the table by virtue of a superior net run rate, although the sides do meet on Sunday in a match that will decide who tops the table and qualifies automatically for the final, which they will host.

The loser of that game could play the Cobras, who stayed third, but play the bizhub Highveld Lions in a virtual quarter-final on Sunday.
