Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday announced the 13-woman Emerging squad to tour Zimbabwe from 1-9 December 2016. The side, led by Robyn Appels of Western Province, will play the national Zimbabwe team in a two-match T20 and four-match One-Day International series in Harare. The two T20s will be played on the same day.
The aim of the tour is to give much needed match experience to young, up and coming players and game time for players who are looking to work their way back into the senior Momentum Proteas squad.
The team will be coached by former Western Province women’s coach, Cobus Roodt.
CSA High Performance Manager, Vincent Barnes said:
“Globally, the women’s game has seen significant growth over the past few years and the Momentum Proteas Women’s calendar has become extremely busy. Therefore, it is important to focus on the cricketing pipeline and the tour to Zimbabwe by our Emerging team gives us the opportunity to develop the depth in our system.”
The team depart for Harare on 30 November.
