CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) has congratulated Eastern Province on becoming the second winners of the Africa T20 Cup at the Oudtshoorn Recreation Ground today. They won the trophy by beating Northern Cape by 31 runs.

“Congratulations to the Eastern Province team and their management for their well-deserved success,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat. “They were unbeaten throughout the tournament and little surprise that they produced the leading runs scorer in Jon-Jon Smuts and the leading wicket-taker in Sisanda Magala.

“It has been a rewarding time for Eastern Province Cricket recently with impressive gains both on and off the field. They have done the hard yards and sorted out most of their administrative and governance issues.

“All of us have been very encouraged by the way this event has grown in just two years and it is pleasing to see how well the tournament has been embraced by all participants.

“This tournament is poised to grow even more in the years ahead.

“Once again the success of this event would not have been achieved without the support of our broadcast partner, SuperSport, and I wish to thank them profoundly. There is no doubt that the live television coverage provides great inspiration for the players to excel,” Mr. Lorgat concluded.
