10.35pm: That's about it from Wellington, where New Zealand have broken their three-match losing streak but England remain in their rut. Gnasher's report should be your next stop, then stick around for more news on the site, including updates from Ben Stokes' court appearance in Bristol. From us, it's cheerio for now. Bye!

10.30pm: Here's New Zealand captain and Man of the Match Kane Williamson: [Important win?] Obviously very important in the context of the series, in some ways a must-win against a very strong England side. We had to play good cricket today. It was important we assessed the wicket, played a lot better than it looked and we got off to a good start. [Personal performance] You always want more runs, you always train hard, that's the focus. There's been occasions recently when you want to contribute but it wasn't be. There were enough partnerships today and the two debutants played nice cameos. [Bowling?] Thought the guys stuck at it really well, Trent was outstanding at the death, but we knew it would be a challenge and the guys stepped up to the mark today."

England captain Jos Buttler: [Performance with the ball?] "Maybe 10-15 too many, that proved to be the difference, the wicket played a lot better and it was a good game. [Guptill and Williamson] They put us under pressure and we tried to find way to break that partnership... We dragged it back pretty well but they got too many. [Good start?] When Hales is in that sort of form he's as good as anyone in the world and Malan impressed again as well. We probably didn't get those cameos lower down, myself coming in and failing and that made a difference. [Need a favour from Australia?] That's what we need now, so we'll wait and see what happens."

10.25pm: New Zealand rose to the occasion at the Cake Tin. A chase of 197 is always going to be tough and, although England gave it a good crack, they were just too leaky with the ball. Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson provided the base and then the two debutants, Mark Chapman and Tim Seifert, ensured there would be no soggy bottom to the innings. They dropped rather too many catches but that aside, it was a pretty good show from New Zealand, who can make the final game against England irrelevant if they beat Australia on Friday.

19.6TA Boult to AU Rashid, BOUNDARY, 4 runs, pitched up and Rashid swishes an inside edge off his pads... it trickles away but that won't bother the men in black, New Zealand win by 12 runs and give themselves an excellent shot of reaching the tri-series final.
19.5TA Boult to MA Wood, 1 run, pitched full outside off, clouted through cover.
19.4TA Boult to MA Wood, No run, dot ball from Boult, all but seals it... cool as you like, full and wide and he fails to connect.

Three sixes needed... What's that in Geordie?

19.3TA Boult to MA Wood, BOUNDARY, 4 runs, short outside off and Wood top-edges four over the keeper! Didn't know much about it but England remain (just) in the hunt!.
19.2TA Boult to AU Rashid, 1 run, fired full outside off, sliced away through backward point for just a single.
19.1TA Boult to AU Rashid, 2 runs, no, swung to the leg side, they hurry back for two.

"Next two overs surely critical for England as RRR keeps climbing," pipes Geoff in Canada

Here's James: "Not convinced Buttler needed to do that. England had taken 12 off the over, he's hitting into the wind, and he's England's best finisher." Two good reasons why that was perhaps an ill-considered shot

"After this pair it's a long tail," proclaims Kishore. "Seems it is NZ's game."

"Would Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali make this chase easier?" Hmmm, tough question, Mihir Nargundka. But given their all first-choice players, England would probably rather have them

Here's Fahim Ahmed: "Jason Roy is such a frustratingly inconsistent player. I know the way he plays and the way ENG want him to play, inconsistency from him is not a surprise. But still he has got all the shots just rein it a bit and try to read situations. When he scores he gets big ones but there are far too many low scores and by low I mean very very low"
