6.24 pm All of that sets up the series decider magnificently. And we will bring you all the coverage from that game on Monday. Till then, hope you enjoyed ESPNcricinfo's coverage of the fourth ODI from Hambantota. From Sreshth and Shashank, it's goodbye.

6.20 pm It was a long match day but one that ended with a result. We went overtime today, but no one minds that when the cricket is so exciting. Zimbabwe level the series, courtesy their bowling at the death and the start provided by Mire and Masakadza. After that Ervine came to the party and ensured there was no stumbling after the rain break. Sri Lanka will have some homework to do ahead of the series' final game. How they only managed to only set a 301 target - after they were at 208 for no loss after 35 overs - is something the captain and coach will need to ponder over. Sri Lanka's bowling looked bleak too, except for Gunaratne's wily bowling under the cloudy skies. The debutant Fernando leaked runs and so did the young spinner Sandakan, while Malinga looked like a pale shadow of his former self. Between all of that, openers Dickwella and Gunathilaka became the only pair to ever notch up a partnership of 200+ in consecutive matches. But do those stats really matter if a team cannot win?

More reactions. Lungile says: "So good to see the boys on top on their game. This was an outstanding performance. Regardless of what happens in the decider l think there is so much to praise in how the team has gone about their business. Great job Heath, Makhaya and all the off-field team. #weareback !!"

6.05 pm Time for the presentation ceremony. Craig Ervine is the player of the match. "The rain break wasn't too bad. We knew the target. We just needed to execute our plans. Tying the series is exciting. We will come back and try to win that last game."

Losing captain Angelo Mathews: "I thought 300 was enough but credit to Zimbabwe. I moved up to get the momentum after Dickwella and Dhanushka. The wicket slowed up a bit but the shot selection was poor too. It's been an interesting series so far. Zimbabwe have played really well. We need to step up,"

Winning captain Graeme Cremer: "We knew we were ahead of the rate, and that we were in the game during the rain. Our batting was excellent. The pressures of winning a series does not put pressure on us. We can put up scores as well as chase them. Our final ten overs were excellent. Our bowlers really pulled it back.

Akshar Kaul: "As a cricket fan i am delighted at the rise of Zimbabwe cricket but at the same time i am disappointed by the level of cricket played by Sri Lanka."

Attila: "Sri Lanka never quite have luck on their side during these chases in poor light. Whether they're defending or chasing. No credit taken away from Ervine and Co. though. Great batting."

29.2PADLR Sandakan to CR Ervine, BOUNDARY, 4 runs, and that's the winning runs!, he brings out the paddle reverse sweep and plays it fine once again, races away to the boundary and Zimbabwe tie the five-match series 2-2. This series will be decided on the final match-day..
29.1PADLR Sandakan to MN Waller, OUT, No run, full on off stump and he slogs it!. Its a slog but not well timed, he holes out to the deep fielder on the leg side. Good catch given how dark it is. Waller went for the glory shot, there.

5.10 pm We have some news. Play will restart at 5.20 pm. The game has been reduced to 31 overs. The revised target will be 219. Therefore, the equation for Zimbabwe now reads: 80 runs needed off 60 balls with seven wickets in hand. One bowler can bowl a maximum of seven overs. And the final Powerplay will be mandatory between overs 25 and 31.

Nothing official yet, but Gunaratne and Malinga are warming up near the boundary. The skies have cleared up. Fifty shades of Blue.

5.04 pm Zimbabwe captain Cremer and coach Heath Streak now chat with the two umpires outside the visitors' dressing room. Wish we had a microphone hidden nearby. All I can tell you is, the umpires walked away in the direction opposite to Zimbabwe's dressing room after that conversation. All four men have incredible poker faces.

4.58 pm The umpires are walking to the middle. They're observing the wet patches in the outfield. Umpire Llong is giving directions as to which parts of the field need careful drying. Those thick ropes are at work too. The longer we wait, the brighter the skies are getting. Not 'sunny' bright, just regular 'less gloomy' bright. Sri Lanka's interim coach Nic Pothas is having a chat with both umpires in the middle right now. Angelo Mathews and some of the other players are in the middle, having a chat with Pothas. Dickwella has his pads and wicketkeeping gloves on.

Ganesh: "So, if game starts in another 10 minutes, they'll have about only 30 minutes before the scheduled end of the play. Is that right ?"-- no Ganesh. Play can continue for one hour longer than the scheduled end of play.

4.54 pm More covers coming off. Less than 20% of the ground under covers now. The areas near the boundary are wet, though. Super sopper is hard at work.

4.47 pm News in! Rain has stopped at Hambantota and an inspection is scheduled for 5 pm. The covers from the infield and the pitch have been removed. The outfield is still under covers. The fans at the stadium are still very noisy. Good signs for cricket. The skies are dark, but not '2007 World Cup finals' level dark. If play can happen, I'm sure it will.

Some more thoughts on the last few overs before play was stopped. Sumit, once again: "Why is everyone criticising mathews. He brought his most reliable, experienced bowler in search of a wicket when he realized rain is about to fall."

4.40 pm some sources on the internet suggest that rain at Hambantota has reduced. Fair warning, these are unconfirmed. I assure you as soon as we have any news or update, you guys will be the first to know. I'm as impatient as all of you, too! This game is poised on a knife's edge.

Sunny: "@Rajput They've definitely gotten better. That match against Pakistan was proof. Our fielding let us down, otherwise there was a very good chance we could have won, despite the poor batting. This doesn't set a good example, because it looks like the captain doesn't believe in the bowlers, which will only make them feel worse. You have to play to win, not play to not lose. Terrible example Mathews is setting."

Sumit sangwan: "Who is to blame here for not allowing floodlights SL cricket board or ZIM board or both? And I am surprised why don't they allow them if it is available." -- No one, I suppose. It had been agreed upon for a number of reasons. While I feel one of them could be to save costs (which is why every match in the series is a day game), the other reason is because Galle - where the first two ODIs were played - does not have any floodlights.

Rajput tries to make some sense of SL's tactics: "@hardik, obviously he had his eye on DLS but clearly our bowlers aren't that good. It's extremely rare that SL bowlers get a wicket with a good ball these days"

Raja Bilal: "Hey Sreshth, Whats will be the scenario it the play doesn't start in next 20-40 minutes? " -- I suspect we'll begin to lose overs. And if play restarts, then the target and overs will be readjusted.

4.21 pm The game is poised beautifully at the moment but unfortunately we still have nothing new to add right now. That means it hasn't stopped raining yet.

Hardik's reply to Maria: "@Maria This just shows poor captaincy and team management. If Mathews had his eye on the D/L par score, he would see the rain coming and go for a wicket. Careless and disinterested cricket. "

Maria kumar: "The Srilankan Bowlers took a Marathon time to bowl those final 2 overs. I think instead of buying time they should had tried to get another wicket since the batsman are nervous which might fetch them a wicket." -- you took the words right out of my mouth, Maria. The Zimbabwe batsmen were looking very nervous while facing the last two-three overs.

4.02 pm If you're just joining us, here's a recap of the record-setting first innings penned by Shashank. Hopefully we have play soon. No, Dinesh, no more news to share right now.

ASIF: "When will we start loosing overs?" -- my friends in the scoring team tell me "atleast not for the next 30-45 minutes." The cutoff time for ODI matches is 60 minutes after regular close of play. But a lot depends on the umpires' comprehension of the playing conditions. The only fact I can give you is this: the game started at 9.45 am and, therefore, scheduled end of play is 5.30 pm.

3.44 pm Aaaand, the players are coming off. Big drops now. The ground staff are in action. Zimbabwe are nine runs ahead of the par score of 130 after 21 overs. Umbrellas are being shared by the crowd. We're being informed that the two teams had agreed before the series that no artificial light would be used in this five-match contest for cost-cutting measures. That's why it remains off despite the dark skies. If there's no play, how crucial was that start provided by Mire and Masakadza? Stick around, we'll be relaying more information to you as soon as we get an update.
