6.30pm: So, we've had runs, we've had hundreds, we've had sunshine and more... The Champions Trophy is officially up and running. Mohammad Isam's report will tell the story of the day and there'll be much more reaction on the site shortly. Thanks for joining us, we'll be back for more with full coverage of Australia v New Zealand from Edgbaston tomorrow. Cheerio!

6.15pm: England avoid being Bangla-ed for the third successive time at a major tournament, despite emerging a little bloodied from the first half of the game. Partnerships of 159 and 143 saw off the threat of an upset and meant Tamim Iqbal's hundred was in a losing cause. Incidentally, that was the first time 300 has been successfully chased in the Champions Trophy; it was also England's third-highest of all time, completed with almost three overs to spare.

Joe Root is named Man of the Match for his unbeaten 133: "There's a lot of confidence in the dressing room, we back each other and it rubs off on everyone. Nice know you've got guys like Ben Stokes waiting to come in. [Plan was] making sure we had plenty of wickets in hand at the back end, one of the top four being not out between 70 and 100, we did a really good job. [Pleased to score hundred] That worked out today, thrilled to bits to get off to a good start. Ankle's all right - more of a calf issue - hopefully just bad cramp."

Bangladesh's captain Mashrafe Mortaza: "I think 305 was a little bit short, but they batted really well and took the game away from us. Initally, getting used to the pitch, the openers take a bit of time; at the end, when we have wickets in hand, we have to do better. [Balance of side?] First match we decided to go with eight batters, but we have to think about it. The main bowlers must bowl better. [Tamim catch?] I think the umpires' decision is final."

England captain Eoin Morgan: "When the guys bat like that, it's certainly a lot easier than it used to be. Joe Root and an in-form Alex Hales are huge factors. Joe is the glue in our side, he's scored a lot or runs, he's not slow, it's at pace and today he was outstanding. I want to lead from the front this tournament, put ourselves in a good position after this game, two to go in the group stages. [Bowling display?] I thought from 25 to 40, we minimised the damage, Tamim can be destructive but they didn't get away from us. [Miss Rashid?] No, thought we went with the right decision, considering the short boundary and it didn't turn a great deal. Went with Moeen, who's been in great form, unfortunate that Chris Woakes limped out. Chris is the biggest concern, has to go for a scan, the rest of the guys aren't a major worry. We'll assess everything in the morning."

47.2Mosaddek Hossain to JE Root, BOUNDARY, 4 runs, clears the front leg and goes to cow again, career-best score for Root, he's sealed an eight-wicket win for England in clinical style.
47.1Mosaddek Hossain to JE Root, BOUNDARY, 4 runs, tossed up and thumped over the leg side, Root trying to finish it in one hit... lands just short.

Tough on Tamim, and he's not happy... but I think it probably was just about grounded as he took the catch and then somersaulted forwards to come up with the ball. Morgan gets a single, too, rubbing in salt

Presumably you mean by replacing Roy? You could argue they've already done that today, when leaving out Rashid... but Morgan has already suggested they will stick with Roy throughout

"England have been ruthless in their approach to the game recently and now they need to be ruthless with selection," declares Nick. "Roy has had 5 ODIs this summer and not done anything, you're not dropping him for someone who 'might' do better. Bairstow is bang in form, might as well use him now. "
